Annual Smith County Watermelon Festival
Since 1978, The Mississippi Watermelon Festival in Mize, MS has been hosted and sponsored every year on the next to last Friday and Saturday in July by the Town of Mize Volunteer Fire Department. 2008 saw record attendance figures and this year, the 31st Annual Mississippi Watermelon festival should be no exception. The festival is held at the Mize City Park in downtown Mize, MS. Mize is located in the southwest corner of Smith County along state highways 28 and 35, amid the pines, oaks, dogwoods and magnolias (not to mention kudzu) typical of South Central Mississippi.
All proceeds go to the Town of Mize Volunteer Fire Department. The festival is registered as a non-profit with the Sate of Mississippi, is all volunteer, and most of the volunteers are Fire Dept members and their familes.
